Welcome to Saratov State University of Genetics, Biotechnology and Engineering named after N.I. Vavilov (Vavilov University), one of the leading agricultural and scientific research centres in Russia.
Our university was founded on September 15, 1913 as Higher Agricultural Courses for the training of agricultural scientists. Today it is a modern multidisciplinary university. Its mission is to influence the social economic development of the agro-industrial complex through the training of innovative personnel and scientific developments.
The University is named after the great Russian geneticist Nikolai Ivanovich Vavilov, and it imposes on us a special responsibility for the development of biological and agricultural sciences. We are proud of our history and look forward to the future with confidence.
Nowadays the university's structure includes the following institutes and departments:
• Institute of Genetics and Agronomy – training specialists in the field of crop production, agronomical chemistry, genetics, plant protection and breeding.
• Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy – training in veterinary and pharmaceutical fields.
• Institute of Agribusiness – training of economists, managers and management specialists in the agro-industrial complex and business.
• Institute of Engineering and Robotics – engineering specialties: agricultural engineering, mechanization, land reclamation and environmental management, electrical and thermal engineering and energy, construction.
• Institute of Biotechnology – training specialists in the field of biotechnology, bioengineering and bioscience, food production technology.
• Institute of International Relations – coordinates work with foreign students, organizes preparatory programmes and international cooperation.
The University also includes:
• College of Finance and Technology and 3 branches implementing secondary vocational education programmes.
Scientific and social infrastructure:
• 45 scientific research laboratories, a science park, a business incubator and centres for the collective use of equipment;
• 14 well-maintained student dormitories, a sports and recreation complex with a swimming pool and 3 sports camps on the banks of the Volga River.
Vavilov University is a participant of the federal program "Priority 2030" and the Federal project "Professionalitet" (Vocational Education).
